By 1996, A Tribe Called Quest had already helped redefine hip-hop through the jazz-infused sound of The Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders. With their fourth album, Beats, Rhymes and Life, the group entered a darker and more introspective chapter.
The record also marked an important evolution behind the boards with the introduction of The Ummah, the production collective of Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and a young James “Jay Dee” Yancey—later known as J Dilla. Dilla’s involvement connected Tribe’s established jazz-rap language with a production style that would become enormously influential in hip-hop and neo-soul in the years that followed.
We sourced the past.
Then changed its composition.
Vintage fabrics—broken in by years of wear—restructured with hand-placed rhinestones, embellishments and custom dyeEvery piece is a different outcome.
Same formula.
Unrepeatable results.*hand wash or dry clean only*
