SEATTLE, WASHINGTON — 1988–1990
Formed in Seattle in 1988, Mother Love Bone became one of the defining bands of the city's early alternative scene. Fronted by Andrew Wood, the band blended hard rock, glam, and psychedelic influences into a sound that helped lay the groundwork for what would become the Seattle grunge movement.
Their debut album, Apple, was released in July 1990, just months after Wood's death. Although their time together was brief, Mother Love Bone's influence extended far beyond their short career, with members Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard later forming Pearl Jam.
